Quetzaltenango, by Karla Gutiérrez -AGN- The government seeks to boost Quetzaltenango’s economy and social development by creating sustainable tourism plans.
Strategies are underway in the territory to attract more visitors and position new natural and cultural destinations, especially during Holy Week.
Recently, the Viajando por Guate project was presented in Quetzaltenango, which seeks to strengthen the partnership between the public and private sectors to facilitate access to tourist services.
The objective of the initiative is to promote domestic tourism. Therefore, this project supports joint work to give different options to the population to plan their visit:
Viajando por Guate highlights the attractions of two to three departments per month, except during the high season when the offer increases. In March, it is Izabal and Quetzaltenango’s turn.
The packages, discounts, and benefits in those locations are available via social networks and the website www.paseoguatemala.gt. Also, different destinations will be announced.
The Guatemalan Institute of Tourism – Inguat- reported that this is one of the strategies planned to encourage visits to iconic places in the country.
Among the natural attractions promoted in Quetzaltenango are the Chicabal lagoons in San Martín Sacatepéquez and El Palmar in Xelajú. In addition, there are various cultural sites, starting with the Historical Center of the department’s main city.
