Guatemala City, by -AGN- The Guatemalan Tourism Institute -Inguat- presented the strategic plan “Soplan nuevos vientos” (New Fresh Winds) to make Guatemala’s tourism sustainable and competitive. At this new stage for the country, Inguat seeks to help Guatemala position itself as one of the three best destinations in Latin America.
The General Director of Inguat, Harris Whitbeck, and the Deputy Director General, Ericka Guillermo, presented the plan, which contemplates the promotion of tourism under principles of transparency, effectiveness, equity, and cultural pertinence.
“Soplan nuevos vientos, we are building and renewing the institution and the tourism sector as a whole,” mentioned Harris Whitbeck.

100-days plan
Inguat’s 100-days plan includes work focused on six strategic pillars:
- Institutional strengthening
- Tourism sustainability
- Consolidation and development of tourism products
- Tourism information
- Tourism competitiveness
- Tourism marketing
Each pillar includes important actions to promote the different destinations that Guatemala has to offer.
International Fairs
The authorities of Inguat have emphasized the importance of participating in international events to promote the country abroad and share experiences with other nations to manage tourism as an engine of sustainable development.
The authorities mention that the country will participate in fairs dedicated to segments such as:

- 4, Meetings, congresses, and incentives
- 8, Tour & Travel
- 2, Nature
- 2, Language travel
- 1, Weddings and honeymoons
Attraction locations
Guatemala has diverse spaces, places, and times that express their essence and should be promoted to attract tourists. Inguat details that this new stage is expected to publicize the country’s hidden treasures and highlight the richness of the Lenten and Holy Week celebrations.
