Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz -AGN-. President Bernardo Arévalo met with Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization -UNWTO-, to reinforce his efforts to promote tourism as an engine of development for Guatemala.
During the meeting at the UN Tourism Headquarters in Madrid, Spain, they agreed on the commitment to make the necessary efforts so that more foreign tourists get to know the wonders of Guatemala.
The president was accompanied by the Director General of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute, Harris Whitbeck; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Ramiro Martínez; Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mónica Bolaños; Private Secretary of the Presidency, Ana Glenda Tager; and Minister of Economy, Gabriela García-Quinn.

Secretary Pololikashvili posted on his X account, “It is a pleasure to have the visit of the President of Guatemala, His Excellency Mr. Bernardo Arévalo, at UN Tourism Headquarters. His presence underscores our commitment to promoting sustainable tourism around the world.”
Inguat announced that the meeting addressed plans to develop a tourism investment guide and measurement and evaluation tools for the sector.
These actions are the first steps to make Guatemala one of the three best destinations for visitors in Latin America. It also gives way to other plans such as the improvement of tourism infrastructure, services and the creation of decent jobs.
Recognition
During President Arévalo’s visit, UN Tourism authorities unveiled a plaque as a sign of recognition. The plaque acknowledges the institution’s appreciation for the president’s visit and states that Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili received him.
