President Arévalo met with the Unesco Director-General

Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN- President Bernardo Arévalo met with Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization -UNESCO, on Monday as part of his work visit to Europe.

The president began his work agenda in France by meeting with the Director-General of Unesco to strengthen cooperation ties with Guatemala.

President Arévalo mentioned, “The world needs to rediscover its paths towards peace, towards democracy, to return to the path of dialogue: Culture is the great element that allows the dialogue between the people.

The president emphasized that culture brings countries closer together and has the potential to be the glue that brings everyone closer as human beings.

According to the Government of Guatemala, this meeting seeks to strengthen collaboration in educational and cultural projects.

Agenda 

The Director-General of Unesco thanked President Arévalo for this meeting through a message on her social media, “Thank you to President Bernardo Arévalo for dedicating his first official visit to a multilateral organization such as UNESCO to his first official visit to the country: I welcome Guatemala’s desire to put education and culture at the top of its national agenda. Unesco will support these efforts.”

On President Arévalo’s agenda is a meeting with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron. He is expected to visit the Development Center of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development -OECD-.
