Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz -AGN.- The Ministry of Finance informed that for 2023 the Ministry of Education has an estimated budget of USD 384 million for School Meals.
This program will benefit preschool, elementary, junior high, and high school students.
This initiative applies to students up to 17 years to guarantee food and nutritional security in the education system.
This project is expected to reach 3.1 million students in at least 36,74,000 educational establishments by 2023.
School Meals
The purpose of this initiative is to ensure the nutrition of the students. The program was expanded to improve the food quality, granting a daily amount per child.
The program seeks to support parents in the growth and development of children and adolescents during the school years. It represents one of the most important projects promoted by the government of Guatemala.
Each package of groceries delivered to the parents contains:
- Beans
- Rice
- Oil
- Corn flour
- Flour for hot beverages
- Sugar
- Fruits
- Vegetables
The Ministry of Finance announced that, over time, it has sought to increase the release of economic resources to include more students.
- 2020, USD 307,000.00 benefiting 29,462 educational centers
- 2021, USD 333,000,00 benefiting 29,515 educational centers
- 2022, USD 333,000,00 benefiting 29,587 educational centers
- 2023, USD 397,000.00 benefiting 38,074 educational centers
