Guatemala City, by Veylin Herrera -AGN- During a press conference, President Alejandro Giammattei shared the results of his visit to the Republic of China (Taiwan) from April 24 to 27.
The visit’s primary purpose was to strengthen the ties of friendship, cooperation, trade, and investment between the two nations and to reiterate Guatemala’s support for the sovereignty of China (Taiwan.)
It represented important benefits for the country in foreign investment, economic development, education, and the promotion of national culture and gastronomy.
International Investment
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mario Búcaro, highlighted that the key points of the work agenda included the Seminar on Opportunities, Trade, and Investment, held before over 100 Taiwanese businesspeople, which allowed them to learn about development and investment opportunities in Guatemala.
As a result, approximately 55 Taiwanese businesspeople expressed their interest in visiting Guatemala soon to learn about the work in the country and establish their companies.
These include enterprises in the textile area, coffee purchases, and other inputs to promote.
Education Boost
As part of the President’s official visit, a meeting was held with Guatemalan scholarship holders who reside in that country as part of their higher education.
They exchanged information about their experience and the promotion of the scholarship program, both from Guatemala to the friendly nation of the Republic of China (Taiwan.)
As a result, the President underscored that more than 410 scholarships were awarded for bachelor’s and master’s degrees in different areas.
This benefit was extended to more Guatemalans, expanding the program’s coverage to an estimated 100 additional scholarships annually.
This reiterates the commitment of the authorities to continue working on actions that promote the professionalization of Guatemalans.
National Coffee
To conclude the President’s agenda in the Republic of China (Taiwan,) the first Guatemala Coffee Shop was inaugurated, where the national product was introduced.
Additionally, other products of Guatemalan entrepreneurs under the White Seal are internationally recognized as a government effort to reduce poverty by creating formal jobs.
Four mobile coffee shops will also visit major locations in the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the coming weeks to promote Guatemalan coffee.
