Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN- Carlos Martínez, Foreign Affairs Minister met with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States -OAS- Luis Almagro, to reaffirm the ties of friendship and cooperation.
Through social media, the Secretary General of the OAS shared, “A productive and pleasant meeting with the Foreign Affairs Minister of Guatemala, Carlos Ramiro Martínez, and advisor and Special Presidential Envoy Francisco Villagrán.”
He highlighted that it was a significant opportunity to reaffirm the dialogue and cooperation channels between Guatemala and the OAS General Secretariat.

Cooperation
The OAS Secretary General indicated that they appreciate the message and recognition of President Bernardo Arévalo and his government.
He shared, “We support the cooperation between Guatemala and the OAS Secretariat in the issues of democracy, human rights, integral development, and multidimensional security.”
The Permanent Mission of Guatemala participated in the OAS commemoration of Women’s Day in the Americas.
The historic struggle of women to achieve a future of equity and opportunities between men and women was recognized during this day’s event.
The actions included in the Government Plan 2024-2028 to reduce inequality gaps and women’s economic empowerment were also highlighted.

Other meetings
The Guatemalan Foreign Minister also met with the Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment of the U.S. Department of State, Jose W. Fernández.
He stated in his official social media account, “Honored to meet Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martínez and discuss ways the United States can support Guatemala and Bernardo Arévalo de León to ensure democracy delivers. The best way to promote economic development is through democracy and effective governance.”
During a bilateral meeting, the two leaders discussed U.S. support for strengthening democracy in Guatemala.
