Guatemala Stands in Solidarity with Türkiye After Earthquake in the South of the Country

Authorities informed that Guatemalans in Türkiye are safe.

Guatemala City -AGN – Guatemala has expressed its solidarity with the people and government of Türkiye after a devastating earthquake in the south.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs -Minex- expressed its condolences to the Turkish people wishing a prompt recovery to the injured people and hoping that more people can be found alive.

Furthermore, the Guatemalan Embassy in Türkiye announced that at least 20 Guatemalans registered are currently safe.

According to Minex, the Guatemalans citizens’ situation is being monitored to provide them with the necessary assistance.

The Guatemalan authorities urged the Guatemalans residing or visiting that country to contact the Embassy in the event of  a consular emergency.

Earthquake in Türkiye 

An earthquake was registered in the border area between Türkiye and Syria. So far, more than 1,900 deaths and nearly 10,000 injuries have been reported in both nations.

Based on a local report, the first earthquake was registered at 4:17 local time and had a powerful 7.7 magnitude, according to the Turkish emergency service AFAD. The first epicenter was in Pazarcik in the province of Kahramanmaras.

This was followed by reports of additional aftershocks, including one with a magnitude of  7.6. Reports mention that strong aftershocks continue in the territory.

The Turkish authorities stated that 45 countries have offered support  for rescue and search efforts.

As a result of the strong aftershocks, several buildings have collapsed, and the country reports major damages in different cities.
