The Government of Guatemala reported through an official statement: “During the first part of the working visit of the President of the Republic, Alejandro Giammattei, in Washington, United States, he held bilateral meetings with senators and members of Congress, reaffirming the strengthened relations of cooperation and joint work on issues of bilateral importance.”
During the meeting, President Giammattei was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Búcaro and Press Secretary of the Presidency Kevin López Oliva.

The legacy of President Alejandro Giammattei’s administration in international relations was recognized by Congress members Mario Diaz Ballart, Maria Elvira Salazar, Tony Gonzalez, and Henry Cuellar—as well as Senators Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Bill Daugherty, and Steve Daines.
Some topics addressed at the meeting were the fight against irregular migration, the fight against drug trafficking, regional security efforts, and the development of a specific foreign policy.
Congressman Diaz Ballart expressed his interest in bilateral relations continuing to evolve within the framework of respect for sovereignty and cooperation, starting on January 14, when the transition of power will take place with the elected authorities in the country.
