“Viajando por Guate” Promotes Tourist Destinations in Quetzaltenango

Quetzaltenango, by Karla Gutiérrez -AGN- The government seeks to boost  Quetzaltenango’s economy and social development by creating sustainable tourism plans.

Strategies are underway in the territory to attract more visitors and position new natural and cultural destinations, especially during Holy Week.

Recently, the Viajando por Guate project was presented in Quetzaltenango, which seeks to strengthen the partnership between the public and private sectors to facilitate access to tourist services.

The objective of the initiative is to promote domestic tourism. Therefore, this project supports joint work to give different options to the population to plan their visit:

Lodging facilities

Tour operators

Tourist guides

Cultural activities

Viajando por Guate highlights the attractions of two to three departments per month, except during the high season when the offer increases. In March, it is Izabal and Quetzaltenango’s turn.

Plan Details

The packages, discounts, and benefits in those locations are available via social networks and the website www.paseoguatemala.gt. Also, different destinations will be announced.

The Guatemalan Institute of Tourism – Inguat- reported that this is one of the strategies planned to encourage visits to iconic places in the country.

Among the natural attractions promoted in Quetzaltenango are the Chicabal lagoons in San Martín Sacatepéquez and El Palmar in Xelajú. In addition, there are various cultural sites, starting with the Historical Center of the department’s main city.
