Guatemala City, by Josue David Acevedo Rivas -AGN- The Plaza Central was the place where hundreds of Guatemalans gathered to enjoy our national instrument in celebration of the National Marimba Day.
The Ministry of Culture and Sports -MCD- conducted the commemoration ceremony with the Marimba Femenina de Conciertos. In addition, several marimbas performed a 12-hour concert, which enhanced the folkloric spectacle.
A deeply established tradition
In this cultural festival, the Vice Minister of Culture, Rodrigo Carrillo, welcomed the activity, allowing the music masters to perform before many Guatemalans in Zone 1.
Before the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Palacio Nacional de la Cultura, the keys of the marimba began to resonate, enchanting locals and foreigners alike with their emblematic melodies.
The first to perform was the Marimba Femenina de Concierto, accompanied by the César Augusto Hernández National Choir of People with Disabilities, who performed traditional songs and got the audience out of their seats to dance.
