Discovering Guate Highlights Tourist Attractions in Zacapa and Chimaltenango

This initiative encourages tourism in the twenty-two departments of the country.

Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz – The Guatemalan Tourism Institute -Inguat- continues to promote different destinations in the departments of Zacapa and Chimaltenango. As part of the plan Viajando por Guate.

During this month, Inguat will highlight the different destinations in both departments. The institution presented Zacapa and Chimaltenago at the beginning of August, with which it intends to promote these places and encourage local tourism.

Tourist sites

The attractions offered by the department of Zacapa include:

  • Ferrocarril Museum
  • El Calvario Church
  • Valle Dorado
  • La Vega Archaeological Site
  • Estanzuela Museum of Paleontology and Archaeology
  • Santa Rosalia Waterfall
  • Santa Marta Thermal Waters
  • Valle Escondido Ecopark
  • Sierra de las Minas Biosphere Reserve
  • El Olvido Farm

The destinations offered in Chimaltenango are:

  • Casa Xará and Molino Helvetia, Tecpán.
  • Matuloj Ecological Reserve, Chimaltenango
  • Xejasmín Tour, Tecpán
  • Acatenango Volcano
  • Iximché Archaeological Site
  • Mixco Viejo
  • El Nacimiento Recreation Center, San Pedro Yepocapa
  • El Tejar Ladrilleras Workshop, El Tejar

Viajando por Guate

The purpose of this project is to boost domestic tourism. With this objective, Inguat promotes this project with the government’s support, enabling travel to the country’s various tourist attractions.

The project intends to create accessible packages for local and foreign visitors to discover Guatemala’s attractions.

Inguat plans to promote two departments each month, and the schedule for the following departments is as follows:

  • September: Sacatepéquez and Petén
  • October: Retalhuleu and Jutiapa
  • November: Chiquimula and Totonicapán
