Guatemala City, by Jenny Herrera -AGN- The XVII Maritime Port Congress 2023, an event that brings together leading experts in the maritime port sector, kicked off on November 27 at the Westin Camino Real in Guatemala City.
The main topic for 2023 is Policies, Governance, and Legislation for Maritime Port Development. The Convention develops as a strategic meeting point with essential issues for the progress in the marine sector.
On the first day of the event, attendees received a video message from President Alejandro Giammattei, where he stated, “This is the opportunity in which the leading stakeholders of this sector participate with their knowledge, and vision, on short, medium, and long-term plans and, above all, perspectives. Since the beginning, we decided to strengthen and reinforce the maritime sector, we worked in a coordinated effort, and we recognized its importance and the promotion of international trade.”
This event aims to involve national and international participants who play vital roles in strengthening foreign trade, maritime transportation, port systems, and related activities. This will enable a significant exchange of knowledge and experiences to impact the sector’s development positively.
The president of the National Port Commission, Omar Barrios Osorio, commented, “I am grateful to the President, Mr. Alejandro Giammattei, officials, coworkers and the audience. We have an important role in developing the Port Commission, and I would like to thank them for their support. It is important for us that you have all the information.”
The members of the Board of Directors of the National Port Commission delivered Guatemala’s National Maritime Security Strategy Project to the Vice Minister of Registry Affairs, Juan Carlos Pellecer, who expressed, “I appreciate the work and labor of all the people involved in this strategy. First, I would like to thank President Alejandro Giammattei. This strategy is of utmost importance because it opens doors to the economy and investment, which this country needs. I am grateful for this work; thank you.”
