Guatemala City, by -AGN- The United States Vice President, Kamala Harris, spoke in a telephone call with the president-elect and urged the ongoing cooperation promoted by President Alejandro Giammattei’s administration.
During the call, the U.S. Vice President discussed the commitment to work on continuous cooperation between the Biden-Harris administration and President Giammattei to address irregular migration.
In that regard, she underlined the commitment to work with Guatemala and other governments in the region to address irregular migration and expand lawful pathways humanely.
Economic Growth
Vice President Harris reiterated the commitment to achieve greater economic growth and stability for Guatemala. Furthermore, she mentioned the update on Central America Forward. This public-private partnership has generated more than US 4.2 billion private-sector investments in northern Central America.
On this matter, Vice President Harris emphasized the constant efforts to provide economic opportunities for the people of Guatemala in the country through quality employment, financial inclusion, and digital connectivity.
The Commitment
Since the start of the Biden-Harris administration, the U.S. Vice President has maintained regular telephone communication with the Guatemalan president.
President Giammattei and Vice President Harris have discussed regional security issues during several conversations. They have also addressed the fight against transnational organized crime, among other matters, on an essential bilateral agenda for the governments of Guatemala and the United States.
