Guatemala City, by Yuliza Munoz -AGN-. The Ministry of Education -Mineduc- has worked on several projects with the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan.)

According to the executive report on the cooperation granted by the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Ministry of Education, the most important projects are the following:

  • Establishing technology centers for the middle school level.
  • Implementing an introductory Mandarin course.
  • Providing  supplies for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Technology in schools

The Ministry of Education, supported by the Asian country, provided computer equipment to the Instituto Nacional de Educación Básica de Telesecundaria. This school is in Barranca Grande village, San Cristóbal Cucho, in San Marcos.

Likewise, the Taiwanese government has provided the corresponding support through a directed donation through the Secretariat of Social Works of the President’s Wife -SOSEP-.

Improving Language Skills

The Escuela Oficial Urbana para Niñas No. 39 República de China (Taiwán) started an introductory Mandarin course to create new opportunities for Guatemalans in 2015.

Guatemalan language experts and former scholarship holders who traveled to the Asian country teach the course. According to the Mineduc, this course is included in the National Base Curriculum.

The Taiwan government provides the necessary resources for the student’s learning.

Supplies Delivery

Finally, as part of the actions to protect  students, the Taiwanese government donated surgical masks to the Mineduc to ensure the children’s safe return to the classroom.
