The Secretary-General of the Organization of American States, Luis Almagro, Underscores The Progress Made During the Sector Transition Meetings

The Secretary emphasized that this methodology has become a reference model for future transition processes.

Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN- During his presentation to the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States -OAS- the Secretary General, Luis Almagro, highlighted the progress made in the sector transition meetings in Guatemala.

“On October 4, 2023, the sector meetings were held to transfer information within the government 2023-2024 transition. These meetings were held promptly with the best attitude of cooperation between the parties,” stated Luis Almagro as part of his report. 

The Meetings

Secretary-General Almagro emphasized that encounters were scheduled and held in the 14 ministries, secretariats, and the Bank of Guatemala. This stage of the transition process concluded on November 27.

Secretary-General Almagro underscored the participation of ministers, vice ministers, secretaries, and autonomous authorities in the transition meetings.

He also expressed gratitude for Diego Paz’s participation in all sector meetings as the Organization of American States representative.

The OAS oversight is a result of an invitation from President Alejandro Giammattei for their accompaniment in this process.

Presentation of Report

During his address, Secretary-General Almagro reported that the Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited him to participate in the presentation of the transition report in Guatemala. 

He emphasized that the government transition report presided by President Alejandro Giammattei addresses all the sector meetings. President Giammattei’s administration will deliver this report at an event scheduled for December 6, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mario Búcaro, issued an invitation for Secretary-General Almagro to attend this event. 

The ceremony took place at the National Palace of Culture and will be attended by the Executive Branch, elected government, and diplomatic corps officials.

Positive Results

The OAS Secretary General also noted that on December 1, the members of the Executive Transition Commission reported on the results obtained in these sector meetings.

Minister of Labor Rafael Rodriguez emphasized that the results have been positive during the press conference held on December 1.

He also highlighted the transfer process of sector information ordered by the President of the Republic and prepared by the Secretariat of Planning and Programming of the Presidency -Segeplan-. The process has been carried out in an orderly manner and with permanent public information, and its methodology is a reference model for future transition processes.
