Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz -AGN-. The Secretariat of Social Works of the President’s Wife -SOSEP- has worked with the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to support Guatemalan women.
The Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Directorate for Improving Women’s Socioeconomic Conditions have reached several departments of the country. Specific actions have strengthened the situation of women’s groups.
The Taiwanese mission in Guatemala has focused on projects such as the industrialization of bamboo, intending to enable Guatemalan women living in rural areas and vulnerable conditions to create products based on this material.
Therefore, they receive technical assistance to enhance their skills, abilities, or productive capacities.
SOSEP has followed up on these plans, which have been successfully implemented in collaboration with the Taiwanese authorities despite the difficulties faced over the past few years,.
Social Program Support
Recently, the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has strengthened its support to the Guatemalan community regarding benefit programs for people in need.
According to SOSEP, during 2023, the Taiwanese nation has invested at least USD 21, 000.00 in technological equipment and other items, prioritizing groups in poverty and extreme poverty.
These donations have been used to support programs for the care of children, older adults, and women, as well as free medical care for thousands of Guatemalans.
The Governments of Guatemala and the Republic of China (Taiwan) continue working together to guarantee opportunities to improve the quality of life of their citizens.
