Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz -AGN- The Taiwanese president, Tsai Ing-wen, expressed gratitude for Guatemala’s support and defense during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In a post on her official X account, the president thanked several friendly countries, including Guatemala, for highlighting Taiwan’s international participation.
The message emphasized President Alejandro Giammattei’s speech at the General Assembly, where he urged those present to unite and support the Republic of China (Taiwan).
Guatemala’s support
During his speech at the United Nations, the Guatemalan president questioned the UN about Taiwan’s participation in that organization. He pointed out that it is a country that contributes to various sectors of development for society, such as science, high technology, health, and more.
President Giammattei also called for unity and joint work to help create bonds of peace and security for the Taiwanese people.
“Guatemala urges the United Nations to undertake all necessary measures to guarantee international peace and security in the straits of Taiwan,” he said.
Diplomatic Relations
Guatemala and the Republic of China (Taiwan) began their relationship of friendship and cooperation in 1960, which has been strengthened in recent years.
The two countries maintain a close bilateral relationship based on trust and goodwill. It has been reflected through visits by the presidents of both countries. At the same time, in the ongoing projects that are developed jointly to contribute to the bilateral development.
The Republic of China (Taiwan) has supported Guatemala unconditionally in entrepreneurship, agriculture, and natural disaster prevention projects.
The Taiwanese authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to Guatemala, affirming that it is an important ally and an essential partner for their nation.
The Guatemalan Government stresses its gratitude to the Taiwanese government for supporting its people’s rights.
