The President of Guatemala Receives a Visit From More Than 30 Atlantic Council Leaders 

The dialogue was designed to learn about Guatemala's economic reactivation and leadership strategies.

Guatemala City, by Julio Morales -AGN- President Giammattei received a visit from more than 30 world leaders from the Atlantic Council at the Presidential House.

The Atlantic Council promotes constructive leadership and engagement in international affairs to face global challenges.

In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs -Minex- authorities mentioned that Guatemala has been an example to the world for defending Ukraine, the positive development of its economy, resilience, and the management of the pandemic.

“The President received a group of Atlantic Council leaders, especially young men and women, from around the world. They have come to learn about the Guatemalan model, and they will stay for ten days, working in different places,” expressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition, he affirmed that the leaders had learned details about foreign policy to promote peace around the world.

Finally, Minister Bucaro added, “The delegation is grateful. These leaders represent many countries and are convinced to build developing nations and grow the friendship between our peoples.”

The Visit

According to Jason Marczak, Director for Latin America at the Atlantic Council, the purpose of the visit to Guatemala is to learn how global trends have affected the country.

Likewise, he stressed that the goal is to learn firsthand about the policies, perspectives, and vision for the nation promoted by the current administration.

He noted that during the meeting, the participants understood the importance of being a political leader in different circumstances.

Marczak explained that they learned details about the visit of the Guatemalan President to Ukraine. At that time, President Giammattei reiterated the call to raise the voice and defend peace, progress, and democracy.

He stated, “President Giammattei’s visit to Ukraine and his leadership are very important because it shows that Ukraine has many friends in Europe and the United States. It shows that Guatemala is a leading country in the field at a global level.”

He also said that the agenda in Guatemala will include visits to Antigua Guatemala and Petén. At these places, they will learn about the history and culture of the country.

The Atlantic Council provides a platform for international leaders to discuss economic and political challenges. Through its articles, the ideas it generates, the future leaders it shapes, and the communities it builds, it shapes policies and strategies to create a free, safe, and prosperous world.

In this subject, the authorities of the Secretariat of Social Communication of the Presidency -SCPR- announced that the delegation has learned about  Guatemala’s different challenges during the pandemic, the economic recovery, and its support to Ukraine to maintain peace.

The SCPR stated that the “Representatives from 32 countries discussed trade, economic, political and mainly diplomatic issues with President Giammattei. They highlighted his visit to Ukraine, the excellent relationship with the Republic of China -Taiwan- and the commercial ties with the United States.”

Finally, the leaders discussed the outlook for each of their countries to learn leadership lessons from the Guatemalan president.
