Guatemala City, by Veylin Herrera -AGN- President Alejandro Giammattei received the Order of Brilliant Jade with Grand Cordon in a special ceremony from the Republic of China (Taiwan) president, Tsai Ing-wen.
This recognition is the highest distinction awarded to a foreign head of state. On this occasion, it was given to President Alejandro Giammattei for his contribution to strengthening diplomatic ties.
President Tsai Ing-wen mentioned that it expresses the Taiwanese people’s gratitude for the support they have received from Guatemala as an ally country.
The Guatemalan President stated that he humbly and proudly received this recognition to honor the joint work with the Republic of China (Taiwan.)
The Taiwanese president recognized the collaborative work with Guatemala for the development of commercial economic areas, health and medical care, education and culture. All these efforts have generated positive results for the welfare of both peoples.
“I want to wish for President Giammattei’s health and fortune, the prosperity of our countries, and the ever-renewed friendship between our nations,” said President Tsai Ing-wen.
President Giammattei underlined that four years ago, when he visited the Republic of China (Taiwan) as president-elect, his administration consolidated relations with that country based on mutual respect, solidarity, defense of sovereignty, and democracy.
“Today, I came back with the same empathy translated into a heartfelt message of solidarity and commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Taiwan,” said Giammattei.
During a special ceremony, both presidents made speeches in which they reinforced bilateral ties to continue working for the benefit of both peoples.
The authorities noted that the exchange is quite strong and is growing towards social development, prosperity, and the creation of opportunities.
They concluded by expressing their wishes of respect and fraternity for both nations to maintain a solid and lasting diplomatic relationship for many years.
