The Mingob Found 140 Packages of Cocaine in a Ship Container

Guatemala City, by Kevin Castillo -AGN- The Ministry of the Interior -Mingob- through officers of the General Sub-Directorate of Analysis of Anti-Narcotics Information -SGAIA- of the National Civil Police -PNC- seized 140 packages of cocaine.

This shipment was detected at Puerto Quetzal, Escuintla, in a cargo container originating in Ecuador.

Outcome

There were 140 packages of cocaine, of which 113 had brown, and 27 had yellow markings. The packages were labeled with a signature with a marker and an R-15 die cut, a possible logo yet to be established.

After the seizure, the corresponding field tests were conducted on the packages, resulting in a positive result for cocaine, approximately USD 1.8 million.

Relocation

The packages were transported with security measures by land to SGAIA’s warehouses for weighing, storage, and later destruction.

PNC Actions

The PNC continues to implement actions and operative strategies, resulting in the following:

  • Dismantling criminal structures involved in drug trafficking.
  • Eradication of illicit crops
  • Arrests of individuals with extraditable status
  • Drug seizures
  • Seizure of assets
  • Money

Other results obtained since the beginning of the year include:

  • 671 people were arrested for drug-related crimes.
  • 13 suspected drug traffickers
  • 3,314.93 kilograms of suspected cocaine
  • 48 pounds of suspected marijuana
  • 31 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine
  • 84 kilograms of suspected crack
  • Eradication of 7,901,537 coca bushes
  • Four clandestine laboratories
  • Eradication of 1,150,890 marijuana bushes
  • Destruction of 79.07 metric tons of precursors and chemical substances.
  • Eradication of 667,398 poppy plants.
  • Disabling five illegal airstrips.

The total result of the seizures related to drug trafficking amounts to over  USD 203,758.89. 

The Government of Guatemala, through Mingob, keeps implementing security strategies to guarantee the protection of its citizens. The fight against drug trafficking persists throughout the national territory. The PNC operates the 1577 Anti-Narcotics Line and the 1518 Confidential Line to safeguard public safety.
