Guatemala City, by AGN: Today, the U.S. government highlighted the work of the government of Guatemala in addressing irregular migration in a telephone conversation between the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, and the president-elect of Guatemala.
Vice President Harris mentioned the importance of continuing the cooperation that has been developed with the government of President Alejandro Giammattei, especially on issues such as irregular migration.
The joint work carried out between the administrations of U.S. President Joe Biden and President Giammattei will serve as the foundation for “addressing irregular migration” and promoting economic growth for the people of Guatemala.
Vice President Harris emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation to address irregular migration and expand legal pathways.
Commitment
Guatemala and the United States continue to work together to address actions on irregular migration.
This is not the first time that President Giammattei has spoken with U.S. Vice President Harris. On other opportunities, they have discussed strategies to benefit both nations.
The two countries continue to monitor the management issues that affect both countries regarding migration. Promoting actions to generate employment through the prosperity walls has been emphasized by the President of Guatemala.
Migration is caused by factors that the President has been tackling since the beginning of his administration.
Walls of Prosperity
This strategy promoted by the government of President Alejandro Giammattei promotes programs that generate employment, health, education, and security for Guatemalans to prevent them from irregularly traveling to other countries.
It also includes investment in the border area with Mexico, covering sectors in Guatemala such as Huehuetenango, San Marcos, and Quiché. In Mexico, it involves municipalities in Chiapas and Tabasco.
This initiative is known in several countries worldwide, including Mexico, the United States, Spain, and Andorra.
