Flores, Petén, by Brenda Larios. -AGN- President Alejandro Giammattei participated in handing over land deeds to 225 families from Petén communities as part of the State Land Adjudication Program. He stated, “Today we are benefiting 225 families, which completes 689 families assisted with legal certainty of the property 292.”
Through the Land Fund Bureau -Fontierras- the Guatemala Government provided deeds in Santa Elena de la Cruz, Flores, to families from several communities in Petén.
Legal Certainty
In 2023, it was authorized to notarize and register the land owned by the families on the 292 farm.
Families obtained legal certainty through the support and interinstitutional actions of Fontierras, the Solicitor General’s Office -PGN-, the Registry of Cadastral Information -RIC-, the General Property Registry -RGP-, and other agencies.
In addition to the 225 families who benefited directly, 1,125 received support indirectly.
The 225 families are distributed in the following municipalities:
- 35, Sayaxché
- 165, San Luis
- 1, Flores
- 4, Dolores
- 20, Poptún
The delivery included families from 33 communities in Petén.
Reaffirmed Commitment
President Giammattei pointed out that during the three years of government, over 5 000 people have benefited from property titles. He emphasized that this also strengthens the family economy of Guatemalans.
He declared: “During three years of my administration, we have handed over 1,137 property titles. That makes them owners of a property where they can build.”
Fontierras is an agency that provides access to land for farming, indigenous and non-indigenous families through the regularization and adjudication of State lands and contributes to the comprehensive and sustainable rural development of the communities.
This agency has competence over the entire national territory; therefore, it fulfills the State’s Rural Development Policy to facilitate access to land ownership for individual and collective farmers.
