Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz -AGN-. Vice President Karin Herrera underscored that the government is making the best efforts to control and mitigate the active fires in the country.
In an interview with the radio, she mentioned that the government has been following up and handling the emergency. She commented that she visited the most affected departments to listen to the community members on the front line to deal with the incidents.
The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction activated the institutional orange alert as part of the emergency response protocol. According to the authorities, this alert reinforces action tasks for disaster mitigation. They mentioned that the State’s resources are available for the continuity of this work.

Rescue team
Herrera announced that more than 1,900 people are working to extinguish the 27 fires in Guatemala.
She presented the situation in Totonicapán as an example, where a helicopter from the Ministry of National Defense is assisting, and a community dining center is planned to support the more than 700 brigade members helping to fight the fire.

Vice President Herrera thanked the different institutions from the public and private sectors for their help, the members of the various aid forces, the citizens who have supported with supplies, the NGOs, and the international community for joining the efforts.
