Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz. -AGN.- The Secretariat of Social Works of the President’s Wife -SOSEP- is moving forward with actions to benefit the most vulnerable population through the Improvement of Women’s Socioeconomic Conditions Program.

The SOSEP deputy secretary stated, “Last year, we trained 31,515 women, resulting in sales to market their products. We look for different sales channels for them to sell their products.”

He also explained that this program aims to strengthen women’s empowerment and practical training from a comprehensive perspective to empower and enable them to produce and market their products.

About the Initiative

SOSEP focuses on different areas to encourage women’s participation in society. This initiative seeks to improve the productive organization through units that allow for the comprehensive development of families.

In this context, the program seeks to enhance the skills and competencies of women to generate better income for their families. One of the priorities is promoting food and nutritional security, seeking good feeding practices, and the well-being of children.

SOSEP tries to encourage the creation of women’s businesses so that Guatemalan women can enter commercial spaces.

Other Programs

According to SOSEP authorities, the entity executes four programs to ameliorate the conditions of the population living in poverty and extreme poverty.

SOSEP works in four comprehensive programs, Community Homes, with children up to seven years old. Social Service includes people with disabilities and the support of migrant family units. The third is “Mis Años Dorados,” for the elderly, and finally, the Directorate for Improving Women’s Socioeconomic Conditions.

The Government of Guatemala, through different agencies, works to support the growth of millions of families in the country.
