Guatemala City, Yuliza Muñoz -AGN- The Secretariat of Social Works of the President’s Wife -SOSEP- has assisted 3,635 family units of migrants.

At a press conference, the SOSEP Secretary, Sara López, shared the actions to help Guatemalans. She stated: “We have worked to receive our returnees in the best conditions. SOSEP has four important programs… we have reinforced them to allow returnees to join them.”

Inspections

The SOSEP Secretary referred to a recent inspection visit to verify the assistance provided to family units in the United States as part of the work carried out. Secretary López and her team visited centers and shelters in McAllen, Texas, and New York.

In this regard, they learned about the process faced by migrant family units within the context of implementing the immigration policy under Title 8 by the Government of the United States of America.

According to the Secretary, the visit included meetings with U.S. authorities. In those meetings, they presented the work that SOSEP develops for the well-being of the Guatemalans. She added: “We explained to them the work of SOSEP, what we offer when they return to their country.”

As of August 17, SOSEP had aided 8,189 Guatemalans in the reception centers for returnees in Zone 13 Guatemala City and Tecún Umán, San Marcos.

With these actions, the Government of Guatemala supports Guatemalans returning to the country after migrating.
