SOSEP and International Cooperation Donated 270 Wheelchairs for Children in Vulnerable Situations

SOSEP strengthens communities' health, education, and nutrition through four social programs.

Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN.- Authorities of the Secretariat of Social Programs of the President’s Wife -SOSEP-, with the support of the Embassy of Israel in Guatemala, donated wheelchairs to children in vulnerable situations.

During the activity, the Secretary of SOSEP pointed out, “We are concluding the donation of 270 chairs that were delivered nationwide in communities with poverty and extreme poverty.”

The official ceremony occurred at SOSEP’s headquarters, where five chairs were symbolically delivered.

About the Donation 

According to SOSEP, most of these chairs were given in the departments of:

  • Petén
  • Huehuetenango
  • Quiché
  • Chimaltenango
  • San Marcos
  • Jutiapa
  • Jalapa

Children from the southern coast benefited from the donation of wheelchairs through the departmental delegations of the Secretariat.

Strengthening Relationships

Yiftah Curiel, Israel’s ambassador to Guatemala, reaffirmed his commitment to continue strengthening relations and cooperation with Guatemala, which marks 75 years of diplomatic ties  this year.

“We are trying to provide training in areas where Israel has an advantage, such as agriculture, but also to continue supporting vulnerable Guatemalans,” Israel’s ambassador said.

SOSEP’s Social Service Department will continue to deliver wheelchairs to support more minors and senior citizens in the country.

The Secretary promotes people’s entrepreneurship to improve their economic condition.
