Guatemala City, by -AGN- At least 2.98 million students from the public school system have been added to the School Health Insurance. According to the Ministry of Education -Mineduc-, this amount has increased since 1.2 million students were enrolled in 2020.
This initiative seeks medical assistance to preschool, elementary, and high school students from the first day of school. The insurance covers onsite care and telemedicine twenty-four hours a day.
The Ministry of Education also underscored the positive fact that elementary and high school students will now be part of this program.
The only requirement for students to be part of this project is to be registered in the Educational Records System. This process is coordinated with administrators at the corresponding school.
According to Mineduc, the School Health Insurance program intends to help students and their families with health expenses. In this regard, under the program, students can receive medical consultations for 18 common illnesses, including:
- Common cold
- Ear infection
- Urinary infection
The Ministry also explains that in addition to consultations, the School Health Insurance provides up to GTQ 300 per month in medicines and funeral expenses.
The method of these consultations can be in person or by video call. To do so, parents should call the number 1523. The entity also mentions that parents can be assisted in person within the insurance coverage. Parents should consult with the clinics participating in this initiative to do so.
With these actions, the Government of Guatemala continues to guarantee the protection of children, including their health and stability, to continue learning in the best conditions.
