Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN- During his meeting with members of the Alliance for Global Cooperation in New York, President Alejandro Giammattei underscored the progress made in protecting life and the defense of the family in Guatemala.
In his address, the president stated: “This year in my country, we celebrated the first anniversary of the declaration of Guatemala as the Pro-Life capital of Ibero-America. The designation implies we are constitutional defenders of the right to life from conception to natural death.”
He noted that the purpose is to leave a legacy for Guatemala and humanity by reaffirming the commitment assumed a year ago.
Commitment reaffirmed
During his address, President Giammattei restated his and his administration’s commitment to protect life and the family.
He mentioned, “My commitment as president is total and has no exceptions: I protect life because, for Guatemala, to whom I absolutely owe myself, it is a matter of principles, of beliefs, of faith, the defense of this fundamental right.”
The purpose is to aspire that the defense of life remains an example for the world, knowing that the most crucial aspect of a nation is the human being in his essence, in his customs and values that characterize him. The State must be up to guaranteeing, through the legality and the realization of this human essence.
“In this regard, my government is based on the political Constitution of the Republic, which, from its preamble, shows that its nature is pro-life, pro-family, and pro-religious freedom,” stressed the president.
Public Policy
During his term in office, the president emphasized that the policy that reaffirms the protection of life is being pursued in conjunction with other public entities and other important stakeholders.
“This policy is designed for the full realization of these values of faith and commitment that unite us,” he mentioned.
This Public Policy for the Protection of Life and the Defense of the Family 2021 -2032 is aimed at the strong defense and well-being of children, young people, and older adults. President Giammattei said in his address, “As Guatemalans, we are unwavering in our values and faith. We celebrate life and family.”
A priority of this policy is to respect life from conception until natural death. It was passed though a Government Agreement on July 20, 2021.
As a result of this bill, 99 programs and projects have been developed by the different state entities that support this initiative.
