President Giammattei Highlights Open Dialogue During the Transition Process

Executive branch authorities participated in the first meeting of the 2023-2024 transition process.

Guatemala City, by Julio Morales -AGN- During the first 2023-2024 transition process meeting, President Alejandro Giammattei emphasized that the government is committed to a high-quality transition.

In his speech, President Giammattei pointed out that all the teams participating in the process will be able to attest its organization and development.

The president said, “It is extremely pleasing that we have reached this day. This meeting begins the exchanges between the outgoing and incoming teams to ensure that Guatemala’s public administration does not stop.”

Coordinated Efforts

The president emphasized that, through the process, both teams will have all the relevant and timely information to make important decisions for the government.

“I want to take the opportunity (to address) the president-elect, that you will be the representative of national unity, and that the country is made up of 340 municipalities,” stated President Giammattei.

The president also mentioned that this transition process is unique as it began in the patriotic month, in which Guatemala celebrates 202 years of independence.

He said, “Welcome to your home for the next four years.”

The Dialogue 

The authorities of the Government of Guatemala explained that as part of the transition process, offices would be opened in each of the ministries to ensure that the elected teams exchange information constantly. This strategy also aims to provide the individuals designated to occupy public positions with a clear understanding of administrative management. Finally, President Giammattei handed over the 2023-2024 Transition Process Methodology to the President and Vice President-Elect. 

The Meeting 

The president of the Republic and government officials held the first meeting of the transition process at the Presidential House. Luis Almagro, Secretary-General of the Organization of American States,  also participated in the meeting.
