Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN-. President Bernardo Arévalo and Vice President Karin Herrera announced during the presentation of the government’s plan before the American Chamber of Commerce that one of the main actions will be the boost of employment and foreign investment.
During his message, President Arévalo said, “The economic and commercial relationship between the United States and Guatemala has been vital to the development of our country. My government’s commitment is to create a productive and fair economy that generates development with a sense of social justice.”
He stressed that these actions could be done through a democratic, solid, and transparent state.
Programs
Vice President Karin Herrera detailed the actions included in this plan:
- The creation of a national job exchange to support workers and employers in distributing job offers, recruitment, evaluation, and selection; 100,000 beneficiaries.
- The development of support systems in the definition and start-up of businesses.
- Franchise businesses will serve 50 thousand entrepreneurs throughout the country, and 22 departmental entrepreneurship centers will be in operation.
- Implementation of a program for access to soft loans for the economic empowerment of people.
She highlighted that these programs seek to encourage more people to invest their capital, time, and energy in trade and employment.
State’s strengthening
President Arévalo and Vice President Herrera strive to strengthen the State by increasing its effectiveness and efficiency and playing a proactive role in the nation’s development.
They aim for the Government to coordinate and drive the different sectors of society, including businesspeople, workers, associations, academia, and others involved in the development process.
Finally, the Government will promote the correct and fair execution of economic resources to achieve the common good based on the fight against corruption at the national level.
