Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN-. An official delegation headed by President Bernardo Arévalo started an international tour around different European countries from February 16 until February 23.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry reported in an official statement that on February 16, the president would participate in the Munich Security Conference within the framework of the 60th anniversary of the event. The president participated as a speaker at the Spotlight Corruption Panel.
President Arévalo focused his speech on the corruption crisis that has penetrated state institutions and his government’s determination to fight it.

The delegation
President Arévalo is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Ramiro Martínez; the Minister of Economy, Gabriela García; the Private Secretary of the Presidency, Ana Glenda Tager; and Ambassador Mónica Bolaños Pérez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The delegation aims to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations with countries and international organizations, in addition to ensuring complete and effective representation of Guatemala’s interests and policies in the discussions and negotiations that will take place during the tour, under the commitment of Guatemala as an actor responsible for the restoration of State confidence in the global system.
President Arévalo’s wife, First Lady Lucrecia Peinado, is with him during the international tour.
France and Belgium
The president will be visiting Paris, France, on February 19, where he will hold high-level meetings with multilateral organizations. These include the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization -Unesco-. In addition, with the Development Center of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development -OECD-.
On February 20, President Arévalo will meet with the President of the European Council and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in Belgium.
Switzerland and Spain
The Guatemalan president will travel to Geneva, Switzerland, to meet with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights -OHCHR- and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees -UNHCR-. In addition, he will have a meeting with senior officials of the International Olympic Committee in the city of Lausanne.
On February 22 and 23, during his visit to Spain, the president will meet with King Felipe VI and the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez. He will also meet with the mayor of Madrid. He will attend a business conference sponsored by the Spanish Conference of Business Organizations.
Finally, President Arévalo will have a working meeting with the World Tourism Organization and the Ibero-American Secretary General, both based in Madrid.
