Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN-. President Alejandro Giammattei welcomed an observation mission from the Organization of American States -OAS- on Friday at the Presidential Office on an official visit to the country.
After the meeting, the Press Secretary of the Presidency, Kevin López Oliva, stated, “We concluded the visit to the Presidential Office of the Chair of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States -OAS-, Sir Ronald Sanders, and the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, who held a meeting with the President of the Republic, Alejandro Giammattei.”
The meeting occurred after the invitation made by the Guatemalan President on December 6, when he handed over the Transition Report to the elected authorities for the 2024–2028 term.
About the Meeting
Ambassador Diego Paz, the representative of the OAS in Guatemala, participated in the meeting. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mario Búcaro, the Secretary of Planning and Programming of the Presidency, Keila Gramajo, and the Press Secretary of the Presidency attended the meeting representing the Executive branch.

Secretary López Oliva highlighted the actions developed toward the government transition, emphasizing the more than 80 sector meetings held. This methodology phase concluded last week, and now the focus is on the transfer of presidential power.
The meeting addressed the transition process that began on September 4 with the participation of the elected authorities. Authorities recalled the delivery on September 11 of the files containing the information from 53 government institutions. These institutional files contained a total of 196 volumes and 30 files with over 66,000 pages.
Furthermore, they also discussed the sector meetings held at ministries and secretariats from October to December. Secretary Lopez emphasized that all information about the preparations for the handover of power will be available through the official government channels.
Transfer of Power
The Transition Commission of the Government reported on December 1 that the Government of Guatemala, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held five meetings to address the matter of the transfer of power.
On December 14, the Minister of Foreign Affairs presented the development of the transfer of power to the members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, which will take place on January 14, 2024.
It was also informed that 71 invitation letters had been sent to the heads of state to attend this event.
