Guatemala City, by Jenny Herrera -AGN- The President of the Republic, Alejandro Giammattei, was part of the Alliance for Global Cooperation meeting held on Monday, September 18, in New York, United States. During his participation, he emphasized the defense of religious freedom in Guatemala.
In his speech, the president addressed religious freedom and emphasized that his administration has respected the most rooted values of society and promoted religious freedom.
Multireligious Table
President Alejandro Giammattei also reiterated his commitment to Guatemala, highlighting his participation in the integration of the Multireligious Table for the Defense of Cultural Diversity and Religious Freedom. He recalled leading the first integration meeting for this group on April 26, 2022, attended by representatives from 24 religions.
Designation
In July 2022, President Giammattei designated the presidential commissioner for Religious Freedom, the renowned pastor Robin Agustín García Hernández.
In his address, the president stated: “Months later, in July of that year, I designated Pastor Robin Agustin Garcia Hernandez to the position of Presidential Commissioner for Religious Freedom.”
Formation
The Multi-religious roundtable was formed in response to the request of several religious leaders to have an open dialogue with the Executive branch. The purpose of the group is to promote religious freedom in Guatemala.
On August 18, 2022, the Multi-religious roundtable was created, led by President Giammattei. During the presentation, more than 24 religious organizations in the country participated. The event occurred in the Patio de la Vida of the Palacio Nacional de la Cultura in Guatemala City.
During his speech, the president emphasized that the Political Constitution of the Republic of Guatemala -CPRG- demands respect and freedom of religion.
