Over 25 Thousand Guatemalan Students Have Benefited From the English Scholarship Program

Classes are held from Monday to Friday for two hours daily for the students and seven hours for the teachers.

Guatemala City. By Brenda Larios -AGN- A total of 25,060 students have benefited during the current administration from the English Scholarship Program promoted by the Ministry of Education -Mineduc-.

It is one of the benefits the Ministry provides to strengthen academic training and provide better development opportunities to the students.

According to Mineduc, at least 25,064 students and 1,986 teachers benefited from the English Scholarship Program from 2020 to 2023.

About the Program

This program aims to strengthen teachers’ knowledge of English to improve their skills in the classroom and seeks to reinforce the students’ abilities.

The beneficiaries receive an electronic device and internet service to access the classes. According to the Minister of Education, Claudia Ruíz, the program is implemented under the General Government Policy 2020-2024.

Methodology

The students and teachers in this course develop four language skills, synchronic and asynchronous training on the virtual learning platform.

The English Scholarship Program includes a deposit of USD 595 to purchase study tools and other expenses.

The goal is to reach a level of English according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages -CEFR-.

Requirements

Regarding the requirements, the Mineduc indicates that it is necessary to have the following:

  • Must be enrolled in a public-sector school
  • Availability of two hours daily for English language study.
