Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz -AGN- The Beca Artesano Program, driven by the Ministry of Social Development -Mides-, has benefited 13,343 Guatemalan women during the last three and a half years of the current Administration.
According to Mides, women have found new opportunities for their development thanks to training to strengthen their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
About the Program
The Beca Artesano Program is an initiative that provides conditional cash transfers -CCT- to Guatemalans. These are designed to strengthen people’s knowledge of technical skills and learning of handicraft products.
The program is a space for adults, especially women from rural and low-income urban areas, with the support of public and private institutions of international cooperation, to train people and share business contacts to promote their products in the market.
Women’s Support Actions
The Government of Guatemala has different strategies to support women through its ministries and secretariats.
The Secretariat of Social Works of the President’s Wife -Sosep- benefited 16,800 women entrepreneurs in 2023, thanks to the Program for Improving Women’s Socioeconomic Conditions.
The authorities expect to empower 31,500 women by the end of the year, providing them with opportunities to promote their products and improve their technical skills.
