Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN- To legalize the migratory situation in Guatemala, more than 15,000 people have been located in the country who were traveling irregularly through the territory.
Records of the Guatemalan Migration Institute -IGM- show that from January to September 17 of this year, 15,170 people have been rejected from the country.
These actions are a priority for the safety of the country. During the operatives, assistance is provided to people who do not comply with the established requirements, and after the legal actions, they are rejected from the Guatemalan territory.
Operation in Chiquimula
On September 21, the interinstitutional operation was carried out on the road Agua Caliente, Chiquimula.
The efforts to secure the borders, mainly with Honduras, are conducted by the Guatemalan Army and the National Civil Police.
During recent weeks, there has been an increase in the irregular migratory flow, mainly of Venezuelan and Haitian citizens, who enter the country through unauthorized crossing.
Deportations
On September 19, a total of 34 people were returned for illegal entry into the country. Upon arrival at the Migratory Attention Center for Foreigners -Camiex, they were provided humanitarian and psychosocial assistance.
The irregular migrants’ nationalities are:
- Venezuela 25
- Honduras 5
- Colombia 3
- Chile 1
The Guatemalan Institute of Migration stresses the importance of assisting vulnerable groups as a priority. The personnel perform the procedures following the Migration Code. Individuals are then returned to their country of origin.
Attention and Protection
The IGM complies with the Attention and Protection Council -CAP- instructions. The purpose is to attend to massive flows of people under the conditions of human mobility.
