About the visit
The Chair of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States commented on his visit to the country through his official social media channels, stating, “I welcome this positive news as I prepare to visit Guatemala, at the invitation of President Giammattei and in my capacity as Chair of the OAS’s Permanent Council.”

Support in Transition
The Press Secretary of the Presidency highlighted that Guatemala has had the OAS’s oversight since the beginning of the transition process. This process started on September 4 with a meeting between President Alejandro Giammattei and the elected team.
Secretary López said, “During the meeting, we reported on the transition process, which was orderly, systematized, and transparent, with more than 80 meetings between ministries and secretariats, as had never been done before in the country.”
The transition process has received international recognition. It can be implemented in other countries during a presidential transition.
The Secretariat of Planning and Programming of the Presidency, by order of the Guatemalan President, coordinated efforts to create the 2023–2024 Transition Process Methodology with the support of all government agencies and the teams designated by the elected government.
He stressed that throughout the transition process, the OAS supported the entire effort through the Secretary General, Luis Almagro, and with the accompaniment of Ambassador Diego Paz.
