Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN-. A total of 78,300 families have benefited from the Bono Social program during the administration of President Alejandro Giammattei.

The government of Guatemala informed through its official social networks that more than 78,300 families have access to education and health services through the Bono Social program. This program prioritizes attention to people in vulnerable situations nationwide.

Program Details

The Ministry of Social Development -Mides- states that the program encourages health and education service assistance. The program contributes to the comprehensive development of the children and youth of Guatemalan families through the Bono Salud and Bono Educación programs.

The program prioritizes families living in poverty and extreme poverty, especially those with children from 0 to 15 years of age and pregnant women. According to each case, the assistance is subject to fulfilling co-responsibilities in health, education, or both.

Conditional cash transfers are granted periodically to users who bring their children to health, educational centers, or both.

Interagency Support

This initiative is being carried out with the inter-institutional coordination of the Ministries of Public Health and Education. The purpose is to carry out the process of measuring compliance with co-responsibilities in the departments where there is coverage.

The Bono Social Program is a significant step forward due to Mides’ commitment to the welfare of Guatemalan society.

The program also seeks to encourage the active participation of beneficiaries in improving their well-being.
