Guatemala City, by Yuliza Muñoz -AGN- The Ministry of Education -Mineduc- concluded the Noj Project in San Pedro Sacatepéquez. During the fifth delivery of school food at the Escuela Oficial Rural Mixta, the Minister of Education recognized the work and effort of the women who were part of the Noj Project.

According to the minister, the culmination of the Noj Program is part of the Ministry of Education’s cooperation with the World Food Program. The mothers of this community developed skills to prepare school meals, were trained on nutritional good practices, and graduated from the training process.

The participants received courses at Intecap to prepare the menus next year at the schools using all the hygienic practices taught to them.

Project Noj

The project seeks to strengthen the School Feeding Program in Quetzaltenango, Chimaltenango, Guatemala, and El Progreso departments.

It is implemented with the support of the World Food Program -WFP-. It allows for strengthening interventions that contribute to the nutritional feeding process. It also includes the provision of basic utensils for food preparation and using technology to share information on the correct handling of food.

It was officially launched in September 2022 and encourages the promotion of family farming and inter-institutional strengthening, as established in the School Feeding Law.

The WFP has stressed its support for the efforts of the Government of Guatemala to comply with the Feeding Law.

Through these actions, WFP has brought food to students in more than 100 countries; in 2020, it reached over 39 million children worldwide.
