Guatemala City, by Lincy Rodríguez -AGN- The Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, and the Vice Minister of Antinarcotics, Werner Ovalle, met virtually with the Secretary of Homeland Security of the United States, Alejandro Mayorkas, to address security issues of interest for both nations.
During the meeting, the minister of the interior and his team addressed international cooperation, border security, human rights, and migration.
Guatemala and the United States have consistently worked as partners to manage regional challenges.
Guatemala is a key ally
Alejandro Mayorkas, through his social networks, highlighted the strategic importance of Guatemala in the regional fight against problems such as human and drug trafficking, irregular migration, corruption, and port security.
Secretary Mayorkas stated, “Guatemala is a key partner in our regional battle. I had an excellent meeting with Guatemala’s new Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, about our work together in these efforts.”
In response, Minister Jiménez posted, “I reiterate our commitment, @SecMayorkas, to continue working together against the risks and threats that affect our region. We will be prepared for your visit in the near future.“.
