Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN-. An informative and awareness activity began in Guatemala City’s, with the participation of different institutions that are part of the campaign “Let’s Prevent Violence Together.”

According to the Guatemalan Migration Institute -IGM-, this campaign is coordinated by the Gender, Multiculturalism, Youth, and Children Unit of the Ministry of the Interior. It is organized inter-institutionally with the Third Vice-Ministry for the Prevention of Violence and Crime, the Community Prevention of Violence Unit on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior, and the Sub-Directorate for Crime Prevention of the National Civil Police, among others.

About the Campaign

This campaign aims to spread information to the general public about the institutions that work to prevent and eradicate violence in all its manifestations.

The IGM will be available during the week to inform users about the requirements to apply for a passport and Guatemalan visa and the requirements to apply for refugee status in Guatemala.

Information Spaces

These informative spaces are vital for people to have access to information on processes in which they are interested. For this reason, the IGM is committed to offering adequate and comprehensive attention to all Guatemalans and foreigners residing in the country.

The campaign seeks to raise awareness about measures against the illicit trafficking of firearms across borders. For this purpose, specific task forces for investigation are related to transferring illegal high-caliber weapons in addition to money laundering and drug trafficking, which have been identified and which, together with the justice system, can be eradicated from the country.

The aim is to raise awareness and promote dialogue and the prevention of armed violence in priority areas with the highest incidence of crime through posters and flyers distributed directly.

Videos and animated publications will also be promoted through institutional social networks throughout December and January 2024.
