MAGA Highlights Significant Progress in the Transition Process

Minister De León expressed his willingness to have future meetings with representatives of the elected team.

Guatemala City, by Lincy Rodríguez -AGN-. Edgar De León Moreno, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food -MAGA-, highlighted in a press conference the significant progress made in the transition process between the incoming and outgoing governments, an initiative supported by President Alejandro Giammattei.

The first sector meeting included Minister De León, his vice ministers, and representatives of the elected authorities, Maynor Estrada and Jacobo Israel Cifuentes.

María Consuelo Ramírez, Secretary General of the Presidency, attended as part of the Transition Commission along with representatives of the Organization of American States -OAS-.

MAGA Achievements 

The authorities summarized the ministry’s achievements over the last four years, emphasizing the last year, and highlighted key information on agricultural insurance, which has benefited 140,000 producers. Of these, 100,000 have a resilience instrument to face climatic eventualities.

Outstanding Programs

The meeting also addressed the progress made in the soil conservation stipend program to improve fertility and water conservation in production units.

They also emphasized the strategic creation of an instrument to produce basic grains to strengthen the country’s capacity to face food crises.

Family Agriculture

The Rural Extension Coordination Office presented a new instrument for registering producers participating in certification systems, especially those practicing family agriculture.

These producers will obtain certifications in the Ministry of Education’s school feeding program.

Future Meetings

The meeting concluded by emphasizing opening a special office to facilitate interaction with participants in transition meetings and the willingness for future meetings to provide transparently essential information on the ministry’s progress and initiatives.
