Guatemala City, Yuliza Muñoz -AGN- The Ministry of Labor and Social Security -Mintrab- announced the status of the Labor Mobility Program.
Vice Minister of Social Welfare Geovanna Salazar stated, “To date, we have 4,339 people who have traveled abroad. It is a very significant growth for the program.”
On several occasions, the ministry has reported that foreign employers have a high worker demand, representing new opportunities for the population seeking these jobs in other countries.
Program growth
The Vice Minister also highlighted that this initiative has had a considerable increase since, when it started in 2019, nineteen people traveled through the industry. Considering the growth achieved so far, it is expected to reach 4,500 beneficiaries.
She emphasizes that this program has been one of the priorities of this government.
“This program is one of the current administration’s priorities, with 4,500 beneficiaries by the end of this year. It is a significant growth, almost 1,500 people annually.” Vice Minister Geovanna Salazar mentioned.
She also mentioned that the continuity of this program is being promoted so that more Guatemalans can obtain employment opportunities and improve their quality of life.
The program’s initiative
The main purpose of the Labor Mobility Program is to assist Guatemalan workers with decent work opportunities in the foreign market.
It is part of the Government’s efforts to promote regular, orderly, safe, and circular migration. This is to protect people from the risks of irregular migration.
For this purpose, cooperation ties have been established with the United States, a country with which agreements have been signed to promote work by issuing H-2A (agricultural) and H-2B (non-agricultural) visas.
