Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN- U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris invited President Bernardo Arévalo to visit Washington after his inauguration as President of Guatemala.
Vice President Harris stated, “I look forward to hosting President Arévalo in Washington in the coming months to strengthen the U.S.-Guatemala relationship and to make further progress addressing the root causes of migration.”
She also highlighted that the United States will continue supporting the democratic values shared by both nations.
Support to Guatemala
Vice President Harris reiterated the U.S.’s support for Guatemala in her message. “As our Administration continues implementing the Root Causes Strategy, I look forward to working with President Arévalo.” She said.
In her statements, she emphasized her intention to strengthen the ties of cooperation between both nations in the areas of:
- Civilian security
- Good governance
- Human rights
- Labor protections
- Gender-based violence
- Economic opportunity
She also emphasized that the governments must work jointly to manage irregular migration in the hemisphere, including through the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection.
Investments
The vice president emphasized that she looks forward to working with President Arévalo to expand private sector investment in Guatemala, remarking that through Central America Forward, the public-private partnership has generated investments of more than $4.2 billion in northern Central America.
She pointed out that nations, the private sector, and civil society working together can build a more inclusive, stable, and prosperous future for the people of Guatemala, creating long-term development initiatives.

The United States Vice President congratulated the Guatemalan President for taking office.
She said, “I congratulate President Bernardo Arévalo and Vice President Karin Herrera of Guatemala on their inauguration and commend the people of Guatemala for making their voices heard and this important transition.”
Finally, she added that the United States will continue to support shared democratic values.
