Guatemala City, by -AGN- The Government of Guatemala has reinforced security strategies in the fight against drug trafficking, organized crime, and illicit transnational activities at the country’s border zones.

The Air Unit of the Ministry of the Interior -Unagob-, the National Civil Police -PNC-, and the Guatemalan Army joined efforts to ensure the country is safe.

Border Zones

Agents of the General Subdirectorate conduct the interinstitutional operations for the Analysis of Antinarcotics Information -SGAIA- and the Special Police Forces -FEP- of the PNC.

Likewise, the military forces in La Mesilla, Huehuetenango, and Ayutla, San Marcos, aim to strengthen security and protect citizens from illegal activities.

The coordination between the Ministry of the Interior -Mingob- and the Ministry of National Defense -MDN- strengthens governance, public order, and security in border areas vulnerable to criminal activities in the national territory.  The purpose is to guarantee a secure environment for Guatemalans.

Air Patrols

During these patrols, Unagob maintains overflights in support of the strategic operations conducted by the security forces through the different checkpoints installed in streets, avenues, highways, and border zones. It allows for verifying whether people have current arrest warrants and the migratory status of foreigners moving through the country.

A detailed inspection of cars, buses, and cargo transportation is conducted to avoid transporting drugs, firearms, and goods entering the country by evading official controls.
