Guatemala City, by AGN – The Government of Guatemala, through the Minister of Foreign Affairs -Minex-, Mario Búcaro, on behalf of President Alejandro Giammattei, reaffirmed the country’s firm position in defense of Ukraine’s sovereignty during his intervention at the National Security Advisors’ Meeting on the Formula for Peace in Ukraine, held this weekend.
During the meeting, organized by the Government of Malta, Minister Búcaro spoke virtually, recalling that Russia’s attack on Ukraine is an “illegal, unjustified, and unprovoked invasion.” He also praised Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky’s initiative to discuss the Peace Formula.
According to Minister Búcaro, “Guatemala recognizes the importance of supporting international efforts aimed at resolving conflicts peacefully and based on international law. The Peace Formula process is the first step that reflects a genuine commitment to determining the current conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.”
He also emphasized that Guatemala maintains its pacifist and peace-promoting calling. Therefore, he proposed to co-sponsor, together with the United States, item five of the meeting. It refers to “The Implementation of the United Nations Charter and the Restoration of the Territorial Integrity of Ukraine and the World Order.”
Finally, the Government of Guatemala reasserts its commitment to the pursuit of peace through its participation in the Meeting of National Security Advisors. It also maintains its commitment to promote the defense of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as it has been done in multilateral forums since the beginning of the Russian invasion of that country.
