Guatemala Participated in The Preparatory Meeting of the Summit of the Future

The Minister of Foreign Affairs represented Guatemala at the event, attended by more than 136 countries.

Guatemala City, by Daniel Coromac -AGN- The Minister of Foreign Affairs -Minex- Mario Búcaro, participated in the preparatory ministerial meeting of the Summit of the Future. Guatemala was present along with the ministers of more than 136 countries.

This event was held during the 78th United Nations General Assembly session in New York, United States.

Guatemala´s Participation

During his address, the Foreign Minister stressed the importance for Guatemala that the Pact for the Future captures the cross-cutting nature of the three pillars of the United Nations and the importance of breaking down the barriers between them. 

He also expressed his hope that this pact would be a reminder of the urgency of moving towards sustainable development that respects the limits of our planet and ensures that no individual or community is left behind in the quest for a better future.

Minister Búcaro stated during his speech, “The Summit of the Future allows us to agree on how we will strengthen the multilateral system and present proposals that are specific and ambitious to face global challenges.”

The Pact for the Future will cover five chapters:

  • Sustainable development and financing 
  • International peace and security
  • Science, technology, innovation, and digital cooperation
  • Youth and future generations
  • Transformation of global governance
