Guatemala City, by Brenda Larios -AGN-. Officials of the Embassy of Guatemala in Chile, on behalf of the Government of Guatemala, inaugurated on December 6 in Asuncion, Paraguay, the facilities of the Honorary Consulate of Guatemala in that city.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this opening aims to bring consular and immigration services closer to the Guatemalan community residing in Paraguay. In addition, it seeks to expand opportunities for trade, investment, tourism, and culture in that friendly nation.
The Event
Wendel Arriaza, Guatemalan Ambassador to Chile and concurrent Ambassador to Paraguay, Victor Alfredo Verdun, Paraguayan Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ricardo Horacio Felippo, Honorary Consul representing Guatemala, presided over the opening ceremony.
Authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, heads of diplomatic missions, honorary consuls, and special guests attended this event.
Ambassador Arriaza emphasized that the new consular facilities will consolidate the excellent ties between the two countries. And it will bring the services of the Embassy of Guatemala in Chile closer to the fellow citizens in that nation and the region.
He also stated that the honorary consul may address trade, investment, and tourism matters. The goal is to boost trade and investment relations. With this inauguration, the Government of Guatemala reaffirms its commitment to strengthening ties with the world.
Diplomatic Relations
Guatemala and Paraguay have maintained diplomatic relations since May 1, 1907, commemorating 116 years of friendship and cooperation.
On August 21 of this year, the government of Paraguay expressed its interest in strengthening its friendship and cooperation ties with Guatemala.
