President Giammattei Addresses the United Nations General Assembly

Guatemala City, by Julio Morales -AGN- The President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, began his address at the 78th Session of the United Nations -UN- General Assembly General Debate in New York.

The president began his speech by greeting Dennis Francis, President of the United Nations General Assembly. He also welcomed Mr. Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, and the Heads of State and Government.

During his intervention, President Giammattei thanked and congratulated the president of the seventy-seventh session and the current president, Mr. Dennis Francis. He also praised the session’s topic and highlighted the need to rebuild trust among nations to face together the threats to peace, prosperity, and progress of the different countries that belong to the United Nations. 

Sessions

The 78th session of the United Nations will take place at the organization’s headquarters in New York from September 19 to 26, 2023.

This year, the theme of the sessions is “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and the sustainability for all.” 

During the high-level week, heads of state and government meet to present their priorities and discuss significant international challenges to advance peace, security, and sustainable development.
